This is something that has been on my mind for a while now that I think is very thought-provoking. We walk around everyday, living a relatively “normal” existence. We wake up, shower, brush our teeth and we might even grab something to eat, if time allows it, before we head out the door to continue our journey on this non-stop train we call LIFE.
I’ve always wondered what it would be like to discover that this whole business we are experiencing is just the beginning of something crazy that we can’t even comprehend. Now, I’m not talking about the afterlife, because that’s old news. What I’m talking about is what we are experiencing now is a pre-life. I would describe it as “Life’s waiting room” and what we experience now is much like reading an issue of Architectural Digest while waiting for your appointment with your dentist on a Monday morning in December.
At the end of your waiting period you join all the others who were called in and you then realize that all that you’ve experienced was a dream and you were asleep; not really alive, but not really dead either. Just imagine, you are asleep now, reading this, and it’s not real.
The film Waking Life delves into this idea a little bit, but on a different level. I recommend watching it if you are jaded, it’ll really put you in a different place and make things a little bit more interesting. From time to time it seems that we become absolute in the way we think, and to me that’s boring. There is nothing more monotonous than predictability and nothing more interesting than spontaneity. Life is no fun if you think of your existence as a means to an end, but more interesting if you think about it as a means to a beginning.
